I had the incredible opportunity of attending LeadUTC twice, once as a participant and the second time as a small group facilitator. I can truly say that this leadership program has shaped who I am and have been in my time at UTC. LeadUTC is a weekend long retreat where participants have the opportunity to learn about what kind of leaders they are, how they can collaborate together, and what they can improve while in leadership at UTC. Some elements of the weekend are focused toward the individual while others are larger discussions about how we can all work together to make an impact at our university. As a participant, I learned about my leadership style and how best to harness my strengths through that style as well as focus on my weaknesses so that I could become more well-rounded as a leader. What I learned through these exercises has helped me move up in leadership roles in Student Government and other entities on campus, and it is aided me in my role as a project manager for app development teams at my internship. I came back to LeadUTC as a facilitator two years later and helping lead the small group discussions pushed me out of my comfort zone because I had to delve into what I had learned and help others by making it relevant to them. Facilitating discussion can be challenging but throughout the ThinkAchieve program I have truly learned the value of having deep conversations that encourage learning on all parts. It was such an honor to be able to take what I have learned and apply it as a facilitator.
